Holby City spoilers follow.
After 23 years on screen, Holby City has aired its final ever episode.
The BBC medical drama came to an end by focusing on fan-favourite Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel) following a life-or-death operation to remove her brain tumour led by Elliot Hope (Paul Bradley).
After learning that Elliot and the team had to stop the operation, Jac asked Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw) to write her a do-not-resuscitate order. While there was a ray of hope when Elliot told the team he thinks they should have another go, Jac ultimately turned him down, stating that she was tired and didn't want to lose her dignity by losing her functions.
Unfortunately, Jac soon suffered a stroke and, while Sacha Levy (Bob Barrett) and Max McGerry (Jo Martin) were ready to take her to theatre, Fletch told them about Jac's Advance Decision to Refuse Treatment (ADRT), and Jac was declared brain-dead.

But from the heartbreaking moment came a beautiful one, as Jac's organs were donated to various patients who needed them across the country, leading to a whole host of cameos from former Holby staffers, including Ric Griffin (Hugh Quarshie) and Bernie Wolfe and Serena Campbell (Jemma Redgrave and Catherine Russell)
Elsewhere in the episode, Nicky McKendrick (Belinda Owusu) performed her first surgery on a beating heart to great success, while Dom Copeland (David Ames) smoothed things over with his biological mum Ange Godard (Dawn Steele), and Henrik Hanssen (Guy Henry) travelled with the transplant team to Leeds to reunite with Russ. The episode also found time to bring back Mo Effanga (Chizzy Akudolu) for a visit.
In the episode's closing moments, a voiceover from Jac talked about the strength of the NHS, before the credits showed black and white photos of the cast over the years to close us out.

While fans are understandably distraught that Jac didn't manage to make it through – as well as devastated that such a beloved and long-running show has come to an end – audiences agreed that Jac's powerful and emotional death made for a fitting finale:
It's safe to say that, following this powerful finale, Holby City may be gone, but it won't be forgotten any time soon.
