Popstar Cheryl recently made her acting debut in popular West End play 2:22 A Ghost Story.

Taking over the role from Laura Whitmore, Cheryl admitted she hadn't considered acting before seeing the play.

"It was really weird how it happened for me," she exclusively said to Digital Spy.

"I met with Danny [Robins, writer] during the day, and we were coming [to see the play] in the evening.

"He said, 'When you’re there, see if it’s something you’d be interested in'. So when I came, I had that in mind the whole time and I thought, 'I would love to do this, I could do this, I want to do this, I want to be in that show'."

Speaking about whether she's considering a move into acting, she added what projects she'd consider in the future.

"Not a musical, that’s not my bag," she said. "This role just felt perfect, it just felt right. I knew it would be a fun thing to do.

"If something else felt that way then I’d absolutely do it, but at the moment I’m just focused on being Jenny and doing what I’m doing now. Going with the flow."

The cast – which also includes former EastEnders star Jake Wood returning in a last-minute change – also spoke about what it was like being in a production with such a small ensemble.

"You really rely on each other actually," Cheryl said. "There’s only four of us."

Scott Karim, who plays Jenny's partner Sam, added: "The best analogy I can think of is, it’s a bit like playing in a band or playing in an orchestra.

"In some ways, you have to do more just the two of you, but in other ways it's more intimate.

"You really get to play off each other, feed off each other, and it’s a lot of feeding off the audience too."

Louise Ford, playing Lauren in the production, added: "I think there’s pressure to support each other, because you don’t want to let each other down.

"You’re really working together. It sounds like a cliché, but it’s especially true here because you do have to keep the ball in the air. It requires a lot of work so it is a team effort."

2:22: A Ghost Story is currently on at the Lyric Theatre. Tickets are available here.
