Katy Perry once declined the opportunity to collaborate with one particular artist, and it's something she deeply regrets.

Now a musical world-beater in her own right, Billie Eilish was just starting out at the time, as 'Teenage Dream' star Perry revealed for LA's 102.7 KIIS-FM recently.

Apparently, she was emailed about working on a tune titled 'Ocean Eyes', with an Unsub Records (the label Perry founded in 2014) rep reaching out saying: "Hey, check out this new artist. I'd really like us to work with her..."

"It was a song called 'Ocean Eyes,' and it was just a blonde girl," Perry recalled. "And I was like: 'Meh, boring!' Big mistake. Huge mistake. Don't let this hit the internet."

Fortunately, Eilish still found a way to successfully release the song – written and produced by her brother Finneas O'Connell – in 2016, before going on to collect seven Grammy Awards, three BRIT Awards, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.

Prior to taking home that prestigious Hollywood statuette for her No Time to Die theme song, though, Eilish fielded criticism for her involvement with the 25th James Bond flick.

"That was the rough period," she admitted. "I wasn't mad about it because I understand. Why wouldn't people have wants for the song that's the theme to their favourite franchise? That's totally understandable.

"But my favourite thing is an open mind, especially when it was closed before. I love when people aren't stuck to their pretences, which I am totally guilty of all the time.

"I hear that something's going to happen and I'm like: 'That's ridiculous. It should never be that way. It's never going to be good.' And it's important to keep your mind open and just listen and be like: 'You know what, actually? I was wrong. This is really good.'"
