The Sims 4 announces family-themed expansion with trailer and release date

Make new memories.

The Sims 4 has announced its next expansion, and it's family-themed.

Titled The Sims 4 Growing Together, the pack focuses on offering more storytelling options when it comes to important life choices, memorable milestones, and dynamic family relationships.

The expansion is heading to the usual platforms on Thursday, March 16, and you can watch the official trailer above.

The trailer itself shows off numerous new interactions that seem perfect for family gameplay, as Sims of all life stages – including infants and elders – bond and create memories.

Some moments featured include a kid losing a baby tooth, a family building a treehouse together, elder Sims enjoying a walking group, grandparents visiting and spending time with their infant grandchild, and a group of Sims trying to solve a jigsaw together (with one person ending up throwing a tantrum).

One child is even seen learning how to ride a bike with their proud father looking on.

Midlife crises, new personality traits, and the new world of San Sequoia – described as a bustling town with a tight-knit community and a lively rec centre – are all part of the expansion as well.

There will also be new interactions when it comes to meeting strangers, with social chemistry a factor. Two Sims may instantly hit it off if they are socially compatible, or naturally clash and be more likely to become enemies.

Simmers who buy the expansion by April 27 will get a swing set, a toddler slide, and a baby carrier for free.

The expansion's release date of March 16 coincides with a major update scheduled for that same week which will add the infants life stage for all players.

Infants will be a life stage between baby and toddler, and come with a range of unique gameplay and interactions.

Also this week, EA offered an update on The Sims 5, which has the working title Project Rene, including clarification on whether or not the sequel is a single-player or multiplayer game.

"We know that our players want to have that intimate personal experience where they're exploring stories and ideas in single-player, but there are also really cool things you could do with others, where you could share and create with your friends, the people that you want. We think we can be both," said game director Grant Rodiek.

The Sims 4 is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
