Extraordinary – how to watch Derry Girls star's new show

The superpowered comedy is streaming now.

Extraordinary is a brand new superpowered comedy series from the producers of Killing Eve and it's streaming now on Disney+.

Set in a world where everyone develops a superpower on their 18th birthday, Extraordinary follows Jen, a painfully self-aware 25-year-old who is still waiting to get hers. Seeing everyone around her get their powers, Jen drifts through life bouncing between despair and hope, wishing her elusive power can emerge and turn things around for her.

Extraordinary has a total of eight episodes (although it's already been renewed for a second season), and they're all available to binge-watch now after releasing on Disney+ on January 25, 2023.

If you're not subscribed to Disney+, you can sign up for £7.99 a month, or £79.90 for an entire year, which works out at getting two months free if you pay annually.

Disney+ hasn't had free trials for a while unfortunately, but you may be able to save money if your mobile network provider is O2, as it offers six months of Disney+ free for upgrading and new customers.

If you're with O2 but aren't looking to upgrade, you can add Disney+ to your plan as an Extra and get £2 off of your monthly bill.

Extraordinary is the latest addition of Disney+ UK Originals on the streaming service, following rom-com action thriller Wedding Season and reality coaching series Save Our Squad with David Beckham.

The quirky comedy puts a new spin on the superhero genre, with Jen working a dead-end job at a party shop while sharing an East London flat with her long-time friend Carrie who has the power to channel the dead, Carrie's boyfriend Kash who can turn back time, and a stray cat affectionately named Jizzlord by the gang.

In between Jen's shifts at the party shop and waiting on her superpower, she occasionally hooks up with flaky, annoyingly cool Luke, a young man who has the ability to fly but has no intentions of committing.

Jen will also have to contend with her superpowered mum Mary who can control technology, her younger, popular and more talented half-sister Andy, and Ian, Mary's second husband and Andy's dad who can physically feel the emotions of others.

Extraordinary includes a fresh cast of rising UK talent, led by Máiréad Tyers as Jen, with Sofia Oxenham as Carrie, Bilal Hasna as Kash, and Luke Rollason as Jizzlord.

Additional cast members include Siobhan McSweeney (Derry Girls) as Jen’s mum Mary, Robbie Gee as Jen's stepdad Ian, Safia Oakley-Green as Jen's half-sister Andy, and Ned Porteous as Luke.

The series is written and created by stand-out debut writer Emma Moran, and looks to show an original take on a coming-of-age story and finding your place in a confusing world.
