How to watch this year's BAFTA and Oscar contenders online at home

So much quality, so little time.

We're firmly into awards season with the BAFTAs to come in February and the Oscars in March, so what better time to catch up on all the movies that will be in contention?

Now that both ceremonies have announced their nominations, we know that the likes of All Quiet on the Western Front, Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Banshees of Inisherin and Elvis are among this year's most-nominated movies.

If you want to be up-to-date on this year's awards crop before the ceremonies arrive, we're here to help with how you can watch every potential awards contender online at home in the UK.

(The only order below is alphabetical order, not any kind of ranking of their chances at awards success.)

The record-breaking first movie won three Oscars (from a total of nine nominations), but could the long-awaited sequel improve on that? Babylon

All-star Hollywood three-hour epic Babylon hasn't exactly wowed critics or set the box office alight, but don't rule it out of awards just yet as it's a movie about moviemaking, and the US Academy in particular loves those. It's out now in UK cinemas and will eventually come to Paramount+, but not any time soon.

The Banshees of Inisherin

Recent years have seen 'smaller' movies triumph at the Oscars and this year's underdog favourite is Everything Everywhere All At Once, not just in the Best Picture race but also in the acting categories. Watch it now on Prime Video if you're a member, or you can rent or buy it from the likes of iTunes and Microsoft Store.

The Fabelmans

Steven Spielberg's semi-autobiographical drama The Fabelmans is another movie about moviemaking, so it's no surprise to see it in contention at the Oscars. It finally arrives in UK cinemas on Friday, January 27 and isn't available to watch at home. However, if you're in the US, you can buy or rent it from the likes of Prime Video, iTunes and Vudu.

The critically acclaimed Knives Out sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, proved to be a festive treat on Netflix. The movie is available to watch on Netflix right now and could see Rian Johnson repeat his writing awards nominations from the first movie.

Netflix

Back in 1941, Pinocchio won two Oscars and while Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is a very different take on the story, it's a strong contender to win Best Animated Feature at this year's event. Check it out right now on Netflix, but don't go expecting 'When You Wish Upon a Star'.

Living

Ross Ferguson / Lionsgate UK

Bill Nighy is up for his first-ever Oscar with his heartbreaking performance in Living, which might show up in other categories too. Right now, you can't watch it at home in the UK and if you think you can, you're probably looking at the 1952 movie Ikiru.

RRR

Bollywood action blockbuster RRR won't be up for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars, but that hasn't stopped the movie landing a nomination for Original Song. Watch it right now on Netflix and see why.

TÁR

Florian Hoffmeister / Focus Features

Cate Blanchett is a leading contender for Best Actress awards this season, with her extraordinary turn in psychological drama TÁR. The movie has only just come out in UK cinemas so it's not available at home yet. If you're in the US though, you can rent or buy it from the likes of Prime Video, iTunes and Vudu.

Top Gun: Maverick

Even Tom Cruise probably didn't predict Oscars glory for Top Gun: Maverick, but the long-gestating sequel is definitely in the awards conversation. If you're one of the few in the world to have not seen it yet, you can watch the sequel on Paramount+ in the UK or buy it from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and others.

Triangle of Sadness

Another 'smaller' movie that could break into the big awards categories is satire Triangle of Sadness which, if there was an award for best vomiting scene, would have won hands-down. If you want to see what we mean, you can rent or buy the movie from the likes of Prime Video, iTunes and Microsoft Store.

The Whale

Brendan Fraser will be battling it out with the likes of Bill Nighy and Austin Butler for Best Actor for his outstanding movie comeback The Whale. It finally arrives in UK cinemas on Friday, February 3 and isn't available to watch at home yet.
