Luther's Idris Elba starring in new thriller series from Lupin writer

Hijack will be set in real time as a plane is taken over.

Luther star Idris Elba has been cast in a new thriller from the writer of Netflix's Lupin series.

The show, titled Hijack, follows a hijacked plane across a seven-hour flight as it flies across London. Elba will play Sam Nelson, an accomplished negotiator who is tasked with trying to save all the passengers, and he's got a very high-risk strategy to try and do so, but will it work or backfire horribly?

Interestingly, this is a seven-part series and is going to tell the story in real time.

Elba will also serve as executive producer on this show, which serves as his first project in his first-look deal with Apple TV+, while George Kay has written it, and The Wrong Mans' Jim Field Smith is directing.

That's all we know for now. No information about other cast members or filming, so this one might be a while off.

Elba also recently revealed that shooting for the Luther movie has finally wrapped, and according to the actor, it was a bit of an ordeal.

"I just finished filming about three weeks ago, it was a grim shoot. Oh my gosh," he teased. "I'm reading the script and then, 'He does what? Wow, this is incredible!' And then I'm actually doing it. I find myself freezing in some dark cave or something, but no spoilers."

He also explained that the movie follows on from the finale of the TV series, but it will still be accessible for people who have never seen the series before.

Hijack is set for Apple TV+ exclusively. The Luther movie, which will also star Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis, does not yet have a release date.
