Idris Elba has offered some new hints about the Luther movie as filming ends.
The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 actor is returning as DCI John Luther as the BBC crime drama jumps to the big screen for what sounds like the detective's most daunting case yet.
Elba hinted as much during a recent interview with The Jess Cagle Show on Sirius XM, where he revealed he'd just recently finished filming the movie spin-off.

"I just finished filming about three weeks ago, it was a grim shoot. Oh my gosh," he teased. "I'm reading the script and then, 'He does what? Wow, this is incredible!' And then I'm actually doing it. I find myself freezing in some dark cave or something, but no spoilers."
He also confirmed that the Luther movie is a direct continuation of where the TV series left off, as opposed to being a self-contained story.
"If you watch the last season, it picks up after that," he clarified. "But for new audiences that haven't seen it, I think the film is a whole story.
"Even if you don't know Luther, who he is, or anything about him, the film attempts to be whole for a new audience."
Luther creator Neil Cross has previously suggested that the film might not be the end of the detective's story, revealing he wouldn't "rule out" returning for another series of the TV show either.
"I mean, Idris and I have shared this character for more than 10 years. And the key aspect of this whole conversation is primarily, how do we stay true to Luther?" the writer told The Radio Times.
The Luther movie, which will also star Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis, does not yet have a release date.
