Apple iPhone 14: What's new?
Considering the iPhone 14 instead of an older model? Here's what you need to know. The changes from the prior generation are subtle, but you'll notice that there's no new small phone this year. Instead, the base 6.1-inch iPhone 14 is joined by a larger 6.7-inch device, the iPhone 14 Plus. We're pouring one out for the mini models – at least our much-loved 13 mini is still available for £649.
While the chip powering both of the iPhone 14 phones hasn't been updated – it's still an A15 Bionic from the iPhone 13 – both have new safety features including a mode that calls for help if it detects you've been in a crash alongside an SOS feature that lets you use a satellite to call or message for aid if you don't have reception or wifi.
It's the Pro and Pro Max models that have seen the most significant changes. Along the same safety modes, they have a new A16 Bionic chip, a new 48-megapixel lens, twice as much brightness as the iPhone 13 Pro, an always-on display and "Dynamic Island" – which turns the pill-shaped notch into a customisable area to display alerts and notifications. Say what you want about the name – but it's very Apple.
