PlayStation Plus 12 and 3-month memberships across the newly introduced Extra and Premium tiers are discounted as part of PlayStation's early 2023 winter sale. However, you can also save extra money by using a clever gift card trick – but it expires January 13.
PS Plus membership is often discounted in January, but this year seemed trickier since the service split into three separate tiers with different perks: PS Plus Premium, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Essential, as you could no longer buy gift cards for a membership outright.
Until January 13 2023, PlayStation Plus has discounted the price of its 12-month membership plans by 40% on the Extra tier (usually £83,99, now £49.99) and 34% on the Premium tier (usually £99.99, now £65.99), and by 37% (£31.99 £19.99) and 30% (£39.99 £27.99) on the same PS Plus tiers if you'd prefer to commit for just three months. BUT you can save even more cash by first buying discounted PS Plus gift cards via ShopTo, which is currently running discounts on all PlayStation Store Gift Cards, and then putting the funds towards buying your PlayStation Plus membership on the PlayStation Store.

Once you've bought your PlayStation Store Gift Card:
- Go to PlayStation Store, log in, and click on your avatar at the top of the screen.
- Select 'redeem codes' from the drop-down menu.
- Enter the code and select 'redeem'.
- The credit is now applied to your account.
- Buy a PlayStation Plus membership before the price goes back to normal levels on January 13.
Remember PlayStation Plus membership is only discounted on the PS Plus store until January 13, so make sure you buy your membership before then. Otherwise, it will return to the full price. However, you can still spend the credit on other items if you like.
It's also worth noting you can only upgrade or continue your current level of membership with this deal. So for instance, if you're already on Premium, Extra, or Essential, you can extend for another 12 months of membership at the same level. You can also upgrade upward from Essential to Extra or Premium (or from Extra to Premium). However, you can't downgrade your membership to Extra or Essential with this deal, unfortunately.

PlayStation Plus Premium 12-month membership
PlayStation Plus Premium is the top end of PS Plus membership, as the name suggests. It's essentially Netflix for PlayStation games, as it lets you stream classic PS1, PS2, and PS3 games, and it's the only tier that allows you to do so. PlayStation Plus Extra 12-month membership
PlayStation Plus Extra is the mid-tier membership for PlayStation Plus. With this, you'll get access to download and play nearly 400 PS4 and PS5 games, which you can view here. You'll also get access to games in Ubisoft+ Classics.
This tier also has the standard benefits of PS Plus Essential membership, including monthly free PS4 and PS5 games, the PlayStation Plus Collection of 25 free games if you have a PS5, PS Plus exclusive discounts, PlayStation online multiplayer, and cloud storage.
PlayStation Plus Essential 12-month membership
PlayStation Plus Essential is basically what PS Plus membership used to be before the changes. With this, you'll get monthly free PS4 and PS5 games, the PlayStation Plus Collection of 25 free games if you have a PS5, PS Plus exclusive discounts, PlayStation online multiplayer, and cloud storage.
In recent months PlayStation Plus members have been given free games including Yokai and Heavenly Bodies in November, Hot Wheels Unleashed, Superhot, and Injustice 2 in October, then Need to Speed Heat, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, and TOEM: A Photo Adventure in September.
