Happy Valley series 3 spoilers follow.

Happy Valley star Mollie Winnard has revealed that the death scene for her character had to be changed.

The third series of the BBC show saw Winnard’s Joanna Hepworth meet a grisly end at the hands of pharmacist Faisal.

Winnard told Metro the scene was changed at the behest of a police adviser, who bemoaned the lack of realism.

“Joanna’s death wasn’t supposed to be with a rolling pin; it was originally a golf club,” said Winnard.

“Because of how much blood that would have caused and the prosthetics I had on for the injuries, the police adviser said it wouldn’t possibly be able to be cleaned up or hidden so quickly. So we had to change it to make it more realistic,” she added.

The actress, who previously had a stint on Coronation Street in 2018, recently revealed she was trolled over her role as Kayla Clifton in the ITV soap.

“A very few people made nasty comments about my appearance, saying I'd had work done on my bum and my lips, when I hadn't,” she said. “That stuck in my brain a bit, but then I forgot about it because the vast majority of people are positive.”

The finale for Happy Valley is due to air this Sunday (February 5), with rumours swirling around that several endings have been filmed.

Rhys Connah, who plays teenager Ryan, denied the speculation, saying it was just a method of filming. “I do not know exactly how it ends. I did hear somewhere that they've made multiple endings, but that's not true.

“There is one ending, but they've filmed it in different ways, different ways of how characters say things, the emotions behind them, the angles, the framing, because how much that stuff can affect a scene is more than most people would think,” he explained.

Happy Valley's last ever episode airs on Sunday (February 5) at 9pm on BBC One, all episodes are available on BBC iPlayer
