Fear the Walking Dead star explains when the show should come to an end

"The moment we feel like we're just treading water, and getting advertising dollars, it's time to go."

Fear the Walking Dead's Colman Domingo doesn't mind when the show calls it a day, just as long as it avoids "treading water".

Sitting down for an exclusive chat with Digital Spy, the Victor Strand actor reflected on the future, with season 8 already pencilled in at network AMC.

"The main show's [The Walking Dead] coming to an end, and I wonder: how much story do we have with Fear the Walking Dead and our characters? It could be another – I don't know – many years, or it could be just a few. I have no idea.

"But what I do know is, as long as we tell the stories in a complex way, and honestly, and follow through with them, we're doing a good job," he said.

"I think the moment we feel like we're just treading water, and getting advertising dollars, it's time to go. That's not what anyone actually really wants. You have to reinvent and rethink. You have to take characters on a really complex journey. But when the journey ends, it's time to end, and I think that's good storytelling."

In that very same conversation, the Euphoria cast member responded to the notion that Fear is suffering from fatigue.

"It's akin to a DC Universe or a Marvel Universe. I think there's lots of stories, because there's a lot of world-building. Just imagine if the world did end in some way: how are civilisations making it work?

"How are they doing it in Latin America? How are they doing it in Asia? How are they doing it here? What becomes of people? I think that's always a great story.

"It's a great examination of our humanity," Domingo continued. "So I think there's lots and lots of story, and I think that they have been very wise about the way they tell it."

Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC in the US on April 17. Season 7B will premiere simultaneously with the US broadcast on Monday, April 18 at 2am on AMC, exclusively to BT TV customers. The episode will be repeated later that evening at 9pm.
