Fear the Walking Dead star confirms exit after big twist

"It is bittersweet, but it is time."

Fear the Walking Dead spoilers follow.

The latest episode of Fear the Walking Dead said goodbye to one of its longest-serving cast members, Alycia Debnam-Carey.

Debnam-Carey has been playing the character of Alicia since the show's beginning in 2015, but she's moving onto pastures new at Saint X over on Hulu.

Season 7's latest episode 'Amina' ended on a perhaps ambiguous note, after Alicia spent a large part of the episode fighting a fever that she was convinced was the infection from her amputated bite taking over.

Through sheer willpower and a vision of a young girl that turned out to be her younger self via her subconscious, however, Alicia appeared to make a full recovery, made amends with Victor (Colman Domingo) and set off on a new mission on her own by the end of the episode, saying she felt better than she had in a long time.

This episode did definitely mark an exit for the character, though, as Debnam-Carey confirmed that it was her final episode in an Instagram post after the episode.

Sharing photos of herself in the make-up chair, Debnam-Carey wrote: "To my dearest @feartwd family, tonight marks the end of an extraordinary and life changing journey of playing Alicia Clark...

"I was 21 when we began this crazy journey but now at 28, after 7 years and 100 episodes, I decided it was time for me to move on as an actor and as a person. As is the nature of our jobs I needed to seek out new challenges, new opportunities and carve out a new chapter for myself.

"I have been so lucky to be a part of something so awesome for so long but I hope you can understand and respect my choice to further expand and grow. I wouldn't be here without you all and I am so grateful."

She concluded by adding: "It is bittersweet, but it is time. Thank you for everything. My love to you all."

There's only one episode of the current season left to go – could we see other cast members make their exits in the finale?

Fear the Walking Dead season 7B airs on Sundays on AMC in the US. In the UK, episodes premiere simultaneously with the US broadcast on Mondays at 2am on AMC, exclusively to BT TV customers, with a repeat on Mondays at 9pm.
