Jada Pinkett Smith says Will Smith and family focused on "deep healing" after Oscars slap controversy

The family will discuss the incident at a later date.

Jada Pinkett Smith has made reference to her husband Will's infamous Oscars slap, saying that the family intends to address the incident at a later date.

Jada's talk show series Red Table Talk made its comeback this week, and at the start of the new season's opening episode, a message from the Smith family appeared on-screen.

"Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focusing on deep healing," the message read.

"Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls.

"Until then, the table will continue offering itself to powerful, inspiring and healing testimonies like that of our incredible impressive first guest."

The first guest on the latest season was singer and actress Janelle Monáe. Once her conversation began at the table, no further mention was made of the Oscars incident.

The Facebook Watch series is hosted by Jada, her daughter Willow, and her mother Adrienne Banfield Norris. It's not yet known if Will Smith will make an appearance when the family do discuss the incident on the show.

Last month at the Academy Awards, Will walked on stage and slapped presenter Chris Rock across the face after the comedian made a joke about Jada, appearing to reference her alopecia.

The moment occurred not long before Will returned to the stage to collect his Best Actor award for his role in King Richard.

Will later apologised for his behaviour and was subsequently banned from attending the ceremony for a decade.

"I accept and respect the Academy’s decision," said the actor in a statement shortly after the Academy's decision was announced.
