When your characters live in world overrun by hordes of zombies, chances are a lot of them are going to die before their narrative arcs reach a rounded conclusion.
While it makes sense to sell the peril the characters are constantly in, the flipside is the actors are often stating they wish they got to do more.
It's happened with The Walking Dead a fair bit (Chandler Riggs especially), as well as its spin-off Fear the Walking Dead.
Actress Kim Dickens is the latest star to say she thought she got written out too soon, with her character Madison Clark meeting her end last year.
Speaking to MovieWeb, Dickens said: "As far as I know, she's dead! It was the part I'm most proud of. Helping build that show from the beginning, across three different countries – that character was something I felt I had grown my whole career to get to play.
"I'm so proud of it, and it ended too soon for what I wanted, but there were a lot of changes over there creatively.
"I can't imagine they would want to revisit Madison, but she was a great character. I'm so proud of it."
Obviously Fear changed gears in season four, bringing over Lennie James' Morgan Jones from the main show to lead the group of ragtag survivors until they inevitably bite the bucket.
The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead air on AMC in the US and FX in the UK.
