The Walking Dead: Dead City star offers big hints about Maggie future

"Maggie's greatest weakness is definitely exploited."

The Walking Dead has finally come to an end, but the franchise is far from dead and buried, as more spin-offs are joining the ones we've already got.

One of those is The Walking Dead: Dead City, which will focus on the character of Maggie as well as Negan. She ended the main show in a positive place, having saved her son and found peace with her once arch-nemesis.

But that's not how the spin-off will start, as actress Lauren Cohan has revealed that Maggie will start in a very different, much darker, place.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Cohan said: "We end up picking up in New York at the bottom of a really unexpected mountain, where maybe things have gone well for a period of time, but we're back at this challenge, just like these challenges that always seem to keep cropping up.

"Nothing is through rose-coloured glasses. Because the thing that comes up, it's like, okay, so we overcame this obstacle of the Commonwealth and these things, that doesn't mean life is easy just because you quashed one enemy. And the enemy is this moving target. It's also the enemy within."

There's going to be a time jump of a few years between the shows, and whatever the inciting incident is that caused things to go wrong for Maggie will be explored throughout the spin-off. So Cohan obviously isn't going to give away what it is now.

"When we go into the new show, Maggie's greatest weakness is definitely exploited," she added. "Sometimes it's not the big things that are the hard things, it's the little things.

"And those little things become very, very big things because they are our own blind spots, and they are our own greatest weakness."

It's not the only spin-off coming from The Walking Dead universe as, as the Rick Grimes movie is now a TV show, while Daryl is getting a spin-off too.

The Walking Dead aired on AMC in the US and STAR on Disney+ in the UK.
