Encanto fans think Disney movie is getting a sequel after star's comments

The film is "preparing for its next amazing phase".

Encanto fans think the film is about to get a sequel.

The animated film, which was released last November, became a huge hit grossing over $256 million worldwide but Disney is yet to confirm a sequel.

However, during an Instagram Live session singer Adassa, who voiced Dolores in the film, gave fans hope that a sequel is coming after she said Encanto was "preparing for its next amazing phase".

A clip of Adassa's comments was then posted on Twitter causing fans to go into overdrive, with some speculating if it would be a sequel, a series, or a holiday special.

One fan exclaimed: "I LITERALLY SQUEALED IM SO HAPPY," while another added: "I LOVE YOU ADASSA BUT DONT LEAVE US HANGING LIKE THIS."

Encanto was not just a hit at the box office but also on the music charts. Song 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' has hit over 84 million streams and over half a million combined sales, The Official UK Charts Company confirmed back in April.

It also became the first Disney song to top the UK Singles Chart, and it remained there for a seven consecutive weeks.

Encanto centres on the Madrigal family, who are all blessed with magic in a place hidden in the mountains of Colombia. The only person who doesn't have the unique gift the sentient house – Casa Madrigal – bestows is Mirabel, played by Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Stephanie Beatriz.

Cast member Diane Guerrero (who voices Mirabel's sister Isabela) previously lauded the movie's representation of Colombian culture.

"To get to do a film like this is incredible," she told Digital Spy. "I visit Colombia so much and I've never even seen, like, a cartoon that is based [there]. You know, where you see people eating empanadas, and all the colours of the flag... Our little sandals and all of that stuff being represented. I really do feel seen and I feel like a lot of people here are going to appreciate this film.

"I feel like this is a film that Colombia needs, especially after all the turmoil that it's had and how it's been represented in the media. I think Disney is really doing a good thing and people are really going to love it."

Encanto is streaming on Disney+ and is also available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download.
