Fans of Brookside are in for a treat as all the show's episodes are heading to STV Player.

The classic soap, created by Hollyoaks' Phil Redmond, famously ran for over two decades between 1982 and 2003 on Channel 4, though fans will get to re-experience (or be introduced) to the series.

STV Player plans to launch the show's first 10 episodes on February 1, with five episodes dropping each week from that point onwards, meaning we can all catch up in real time.

This is the first time that all the episodes will be streaming, with BritBox previously making select episodes of the Liverpool-set soap available in 2021.

The soap was set in and around a cul-de-sac called Brookside Close and featured some huge TV moments, including the groundbreaking first pre-watershed female same-sex kiss aired on British TV in 1994, as well as the first openly gay character on British TV when Gordon Collins (Nigel Crowley) came out in 1985.

The soap also featured a number of important and hard-hitting storylines, including topics such as rape and bullying, as well as a controversial incest plot.

"It may have been two decades since Brookside drew to a close, but the love for the show from its passionate army of fans has never waned," said STV managing director of digital Richard Williams.

"We're so pleased to be the first streaming service to bring this legendary piece of TV history back into viewers' living rooms for free, and I hope super fans and new audiences alike enjoy all the nostalgic drama that Brookside has to offer on STV Player."

Reacting to the streaming news, Sunetra Sarker (who played Nisha Batra) said: "I owe a lot to Brookside as I was lucky enough to have been spotted at a bus stop when I was 15 and given the role of Nisha. Had I known then that Brookside Close would be the road that led me to my surprising and eventful career, I would never have believed it!

"I am thrilled that STV Player is airing Brookie again after all these years. I never fail to hear fans tell me how much they still miss the show. Get streaming and see just how ground-breaking this Liverpool-based soap opera was all those years ago."

Claire Sweeney (Lindsay Corkhill) said that it was "pioneering show which tackled gritty storylines in an explosive way," adding: "Phil Redmond took storyline to places and it was the first show to have a helpline added at the end."

Brookside will stream on STV from February 1.
