Home and Away casts Kirsty Marillier as new character Rose

Summer Bay is welcoming a new face in 2022.

Home and Away is gearing up to welcome a fresh face to Summer Bay in the new year.

Today (Wednesday, November 17), the long-running soap announced that Kirsty Marillier, an actor and award-winning playwright based in Sydney and Melbourne, will be joining the cast as new character Rose in 2022.

While it didn't specify the exact date Marillier will make her introduction, it seems likely that viewers won't be waiting too long to meet her, seeing as she's already started filming her first few scenes.

"Ah! Can finally come clean about this hot piece of news I've been harbouring for the last 2 months..." she wrote on Instagram, shortly after the announcement was made online. "Ecstatic to announce I've been welcomed as a series reg on @channel7s Home & Away.

"Woah. Getting to be a part of this Aus icon-of-a-show is a bit wild. It's been a gorg 6 weeks of shooting as I embrace the bay as new resident brown girl, Rose. Big thank you to @dailytelegraph for this pg 3 spread & mum for keeping this top secret."

Marillier, who once appeared in Home and Away as guest character Rhea in 2018, is currently a part of the Emerging Writers Group at Sydney Theatre Company Her most recent acting credits include the Australian Premiere of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

In a prepared statement, she said she was "humbled" to be joining the show and that she'd always dreamed of being a part of its "sunny utopia" when she used to watch it in high school.

"It feels surreal to have this become my reality," she continued. "I hope UK viewers love Rose as much as I do, and get to know her deeply in 2022, as she uncovers secrets and embraces the bay."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia). Selected classic episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
