Emily in Paris season three spoilers follow
It's become something of a beloved Netflix hit, and fans will already be wanting to know whether or not a season four of Emily in Paris is to be expected – particularly after that season -hree cliffhanger.
Lead actor and producer Lily Collins did tease (via an interview with EW) that we'd "wish there was a season four right away", and she certainly wasn't wrong.
Final warning: if you've not watched season three to the end, or don't want to see spoilers, do not read below this point.
After years (seriously, how long can a plot be drawn out for?) of will they/won't they for Emily and hot property chef Gabriel, the path finally seems clear for them to get together.
That is, if you can overlook the fact that the restauranteur had just said "I do" to Camille and would be married right about now had she not had the gumption to call it as she saw it, announcing to the congregation that her man was in love with her best friend.
And to make things all the more complicated, Gabriel performed the ultimate mic drop in telling Emily that Camille was pregnant right before the credits rolled.
But will we be getting more episodes to clear all of this up? Here's what we know...
Emily in Paris season 4 potential release date – when will it return?
Thankfully there's not going to be a lot of waiting around for a renewal announcement, because it's already been confirmed that Emily in Paris will indeed be back for a fourth instalment.
Lily Collins – who of course is the face of the series, playing American in Paris Emily Cooper – shared the news with her followers in an Instagram post earlier this year.
"Woke up early to give you some VERY exciting news," she captioned a photo of herself wearing a very on-brand pyjama set. "@emilyinparis is back for Season 3… AND wait for it, Season 4!!!!! I can't tell if Emily would love or hate this announcement outfit but she'd be screaming either way. Truly love you all, thanks so much for the incredible support. Seriously cannot wait for more. Merci Beaucoup!!…"
In terms of a more specific release date, we don't yet have one just yet.
But we can do some pretty convincing guesswork. Both seasons two and three have previously dropped in full in December, right in time for a holiday binge-watch, so we wouldn't be too surprised if season four followed suit. This would land us at a December 2023 release.
We also know (via Variety) that seasons three and four were filmed at the same time, so in theory there shouldn't be any delays in bringing us brand new episodes – it's just all down to when Netflix decides to drop them.
As for what might happen for Emily in Paris after that, we're not too sure.
During a recent interview with Forbes, show boss Darren Star revealed that he doesn't have a "firm agenda" when it comes to how long the show will last, so the story seems far from mapped out.
"I think that is because you discover so much by making the series as the world of the characters keeps evolving," he said, before adding: "With Emily in Paris, I see opportunities for growth."
Emily in Paris season 4 cast – who will be back?
Emily in Paris would not be Emily in Paris without, well, Emily in Paris. Ahem.
With so much up in the air story-wise, and many questions that need answering, we'd need to catch up with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), Camille (Camille Razat) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) in order to get a satisfying resolution to season three's final twist.
Lucien Laviscount has already spoken about what he hopes will happen for Alfie in the next season. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said: "I'd like Alfie to kind of take a little bit more of a stand within the company with Antoine, that'd be cool.
"Maybe have a little bit of speaking to with the good ole Nicolas, I think that that'd be quite a nice little thing to play with within the business, the two businesses kind of fighting off each other.
"I personally, as me, I need closure on certain things, whatever that might look like. So I guess with Alfie and Emily, whether it be closure or a friendship or whatever, to explore that? Because I know it's been explored [a little] but I think their relationship is different than what Gabriel and Emily's was.
"So it'd be interesting to explore that maybe. But, like I say, I'm all in for whatever."
Of course, Em's best friend and roommate Mindy (Ashley Park) would be sorely missed, so we have every reason to suspect that she'd be back for more episodes as well. Besides, Emily is going to need her gal pal as she's still got some tough decisions to make.
With Emily's workaholic attitude, her boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) and colleagues Julian (Samuel Arnold) and Luc (Bruno Gouery) should also be making more than just an appearance. In fact, we need to find out what Julian's future at the company – and his friendship with Emily – is going to look like.
There's every chance that we'll also see an introduction of some new characters, whether that be (another) new love interest for Emily or some other rivals in the marketing world.
And with Camille's future up in the air, we may also see more of artist Sofia (Melia Kreiling) who she had an affair with before discovering her pregnancy.
Emily in Paris season 4 trailer – where can I watch it?
With season three only dropping on Netflix on December 21, it's way too early to see any footage from season four.
The trailer for the current season was released three weeks prior to its launch date, so we'd expect something similar to happen next time around.
Emily in Paris is available on Netflix.
