High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens has broken her silence on a nostalgic return to East High this summer.

Via Instagram, she recorded herself on that hallowed ground once again, 14 years since her final turn as Gabriella Montez, and naturally this got fans excited.

The intense speculation came when Troy Bolton's Zac Efron visited the same location just a few weeks later too.

"My boyfriend was playing in Salt Lake – he's a baseball player," Hudgens explained to Entertainment Weekly.

"So he was at the field and I had rented a car and I was like: 'I want to go check it out and take some pictures for old time's sake.'"

As for Efron's convenient timing, the actress joked: "What can I say, I'm a trendsetter."

Fans are right to raise their eyebrows at the pair's activity, as it was recently confirmed that the fourth season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series would be bringing back old faces in the form of Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel, Monique Coleman, Kaycee Stroh, Alyson Reed and Bart Johnson.

Asked whether she's primed for a cameo herself, Hudgens cryptically told the publication: "I don't know. We leave it up to fate. Leave it up to the gods."

While we await probable confirmation on that, here's a synopsis for season 4: "After an epic summer at Camp Shallow Lake, the Wildcats return to East High where they prepare a stage production of High School Musical 3: Senior Year.

"But plans are disrupted when Principal Gutierrez announces that Disney has decided to make the long-awaited High School Musical 4: The Reunion movie on location at their beloved high school."
