The Sims 4 has released a free update today (May 24) that adds customisable pronouns for all Sims.
EA and Maxis have been working with the It Gets Better Project and GLAAD to implement the long-awaited feature and ensure that it was done correctly.
First demoed back in January, players can input custom pronouns in Create-a-Sim (CAS) mode, including the Sim's subjective, objective, possessive, and reflexive pronouns.
This is currently only for the English version of the game, but the developers confirmed that they were planning further updates to improve the feature and support other languages.
"In our world today, we believe that gender neutrality plays a critical part in working towards a fully inclusive society," producer John Faciane added at the time.
While the franchise has had same-sex relationships since the first game, the developers have worked to make The Sims 4 more LGBTQ+ inclusive over the past few years, including gender customisation options (collaborating again with GLAAD), Pride content, and LGBTQ+ pre-made Sims.

This update isn't the only new content for the game this week. On Thursday, the Moonlight Chic Kit and Little Campers Kit will launch – the former adding a range of Parisian-inspired clothing items and the latter introducing a variety of Build/Buy objects for the younger Sims to enjoy in their backyard.
There's a lot of speculation that we're going to get a werewolves-themed Game Pack next month, based on clues in the most recent roadmap.
The Sims 4 is available on PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
