The Sims 4 hints at the game's future heading into 2021

"Our players are plenty hungry for more content."

The Sims 4 ended 2020 on a strong note, with the well-received release of Snowy Escape and a free update that finally addressed the skin tone issues. But what about 2021?

Many players have speculated over whether it's now time for The Sims 5, but in an interview with GamesRadar, producer Graham Nardone played down such talk and instead suggested there's plenty more that can be achieved with The Sims 4.

"There's such a diverse range of topics and features that we could cover," he said. "The possibility space of what we can do within The Sims 4 is just humongous.

"I think that just goes to show that there's way more that we can still do within this title, and our players are plenty hungry for more content that we can give in. That's a good problem to have."

This year's content has included snow activities and a Japan-inspired world, as well as a variety of themes such as eco-friendly living, Star Wars, knitting, and tiny homes. So next year could see the game continue to explore different and potentially left-field topics.

Elsewhere in the interview, Nardone was asked about the possibility of adding more representation for disabled players, such as wheelchairs and guide dogs. He responded that it's something the developers have given thought to.

"We've had active outreach with players in the community and asked, 'What are better ways that we can represent you? What are some of the things that we can do to recreate those moments, or lived experiences, respectfully within The Sims 4?'

"I think the last thing that we want to avoid is turning it into a feature."

The Sims 4 is available on PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
