While you might be busy coming up with a New Year's resolution you can actually stick to – no, we won't be giving up any chocolate – one possible commitment this Christmas season is a new phone contract on a great new device.
The past year has been great for new handsets, what with Apple's iPhone 14 series, Samsung's Galaxy S22 family, and Google's Pixel 7 all competing for your hard-earned.
There's plenty to choose from, and your problem will now be which one do you get and how much data do you get on it?

But don't worry, O2 is here to guide you in your next new smartphone purchase and make sure you get as cheap a tariff as possible, and maybe even a free gift or two to go with it.
There are obviously many different networks in the UK worth looking into, including EE, Sky Mobile and Vodafone. However, O2's data packages give you a lot of freedom to customise how much data you have, how much you pay upfront, and you may want to add additional treats on top, such as subscriptions to Disney+, or Amazon Prime for free. O2 is also one of the networks that can still offer roaming at no extra cost in EU countries.
O2's Christmas sale is helping you save hundreds of pounds over the length of your contract, as well as discounts on tablets and unlimited data SIM cards.
Some offers are only running until December 20, which is tomorrow, but others carry on past the big day and towards the new year, with O2 suggesting it can still guarantee deliveries before Christmas if you were to buy in the next 24 hours.
You can also trade in any of your old phones and get discounts on your monthly bills too, so long as they are still in good nick, so it's worth checking out if you can save that way as well.
O2 Christmas 2022 iPhone and iPad deals
If only the best iPhone of the moment will do, you might be tempted by O2’s deal on the iPhone 14 Pro. Until December 28, 2022, Apple’s flagship phone of 2022 is available for £57.99 a month (down from £62.99) with a £30 upfront payment. This is for the 128GB model on an unlimited data plan for 36 months. Granted, it doesn’t look like an enormous saving on paper, but that’ll add up over time, to the tune of £180 if you’re after specifics. And currently the 150GB plan costs more.
Not everyone needs the flashiest iPhone, and you’ll pay almost half the amount above for the iPhone 11, which is also featured in O2’s Christmas sale. You can get the aging but still very capable iPhone for £34.76 (was £38.76) a month and £20 upfront, which entitles you to 30GB of data.
You can also save on the cost of a new iPad in O2’s Christmas sale. When you purchase a tablet with the network (you have to be an O2 customer) and choose to spread the payment over the course of 24 months or more, you also have to take out an airtime plan that is at least as long as the duration of your Device Plan. When you reach the end of this term, your plans will unlink and you’ll be given a number of options depending on where you are with your device repayment. You can also choose to pay off whatever remains of your Device Plan at any time.
With all this in mind, O2 is offering six months of free airtime with its 2GB and 10GB data plans for the iPad Pro 12.9 6th Gen. So where you’d usually pay £48.25 a month (£29.25 Device + £19 Airtime) on the 10GB plan, you’ll only pay £29.95 for six months, with a £20 upfront fee.
If the biggest iPad seems like overkill, it’s the same proposition with the iPad Air 5th Gen, only here you’ll pay either £32.25 for the first six months on the 2GB plan, or £36.25 for 10GB plan.
O2 Christmas 2022 Samsung Galaxy deals
Until December 28, O2 is offering an overall saving of £500 on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. The monthly cost on a 150GB data plan for 36 months is £50.60, with £30 upfront. The saving applies to a £140 discount on the device plan and a £10 monthly discount on the Airtime plan offered by O2.
Don’t need all that data? On the same contract terms you can drop down to 100GB for £47.61 or 5GB for £42.61.
Alternatively, you can claim £150 cashback on the Samsung Galaxy S22 until December 20 (that’s tomorrow, so think fast!) if you take O2’s 100GB data plan for 36 months, which comes in at £48.50 a month with £30 upfront.
O2 Christmas 2022 Google Pixel deals
With the synchronicity between hardware and software that only it can offer, Google’s is for many the most iPhone-like Android experience you can get, and we love this year’s Pixel 7 line. Pick up the Pixel 7 Pro with O2 before December 28 and you can save up to £216 on the 100GB 36-month tariff, which is down to £44.75 a month from £49.64. As with most of O2’s plans, you’ll pay £30 upfront. Until December 29, O2 will also throw in a Fitbit Versa4 smartwatch at no extra cost.
The wearable is also included in deals on the standard Pixel 7 (down to £38.71 from £42.70 on the same plan as above) and the midrange Pixel 6a (£25.25 a month for 20GB data).
Remember that any discounts on plans end one day earlier (December 28) than the Fitbit offer.
O2 Christmas 2022 SIM-only deals
You don’t need to buy a new phone to take advantage of O2’s Christmas offers. The network also has several deals on its SIM-only plans, granting you free data for the first three months of your minimum 24-month contract.
Take the 150GB package, which includes unlimited minutes and texts, and you’ll pay nothing for three months and then £22 a month for the remainder of your plan. And it’s the same deal with the unlimited SIM-only offer, except here your monthly cost becomes £30 after the initial three-month period. Remember that with either of these SIM plans you can also roam freely within the EU up to 25GB.
