Apple is doing away with many of its previous iterations now that it has three shiny new iPhones to sell to customers.

The trillion-dollar tech giant announced the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR models during its live broadcast last night, but the news spells the doom of some of Apple's older phones.

If you make your way over to the official Apple website, you will notice it's no longer possible to purchase the iPhone X, iPhone 6S, or the iPhone SE from the site. The beady-eyed among you will spot that this means Apple has stopped selling iPhones with headphone jacks in them.

The justification for this change? Courage. Back in 2016 when the announcement was made, Phil Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for Apple, said: "The courage to move on and do something new that betters all of us."

Apple clearly thinks headphone jacks are simply something the fans don't want – despite most of the fanbase crying out for the return of headphone jacks since the company removed them from its models for the iPhone 7.

Instead, Apple brought out a special cable that connected to the Lightning battery port on your phone to allow headphones to plug in, meaning you had to make the terrible choice to either listen to music on your headphones or charge your phone.

There is clearly reasoning behind Apple's decision to remove the 3.5mm jack. A focus on wireless charging would mean the Lightning port is essentially obsolete for charging your phone, while Bluetooth headphones, like Apple's AirPods, would mean you don't actually need to connect anything to your iPhone anyway.

Clicking on the Apple website to buy a new phone, you will now be greeted with details on the three new models, the iPhone 7, iPhone 8 and several iPhone accessories, like the AirPods, cases and wireless charging ports.

Please pause for a moment of silence to mark the end of the headphone jack.

Happily, this does mean that you can get the previous models of the iPhone for much cheaper prices. iPhone X prices have already dropped after the announcement of the XS, XS Max, and XR, as have costs for the iPhone 6S and SE.
