Yellowjackets reveals first look at LOTR star Elijah Wood in season 2

The new season debuts in March.

A first look at Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood in Yellowjackets season 2 has been unveiled.

The actor is set to join the acclaimed drama for the upcoming season in the role of Walter, a Citizen Detective who is set to cross paths with Misty (Christina Ricci), and challenge her.

The first picture of the star in character has now been released, showing him and Misty staring at something unseen off screen.

Wood is one of a number of new cast additions for the second season, including Servant's Lauren Ambrose as adult Van and Jason Ritter in an undisclosed role.

Also on board are Supergirl's Nicole Maines as Lisa, an associate of adult Lottie, and The Borgias' François Arnaud as Paul, a New York writer in a secret relationship with coach Ben.

One of the teen characters has also been recast for season 2, with Bel-Air's Nia Sondaya set to take over the part of Akilah from Keeya King.

Ahead of the season debut in March, it was confirmed last month that Yellowjackets had been renewed for a third run.

"With Yellowjackets' runaway success in season 1 and the pent-up anticipation for season 2, we wanted to maximise the momentum by fast-tracking season 3 now," said Chris McCarthy, CEO at Showtime and Paramount Media Networks.

"The show's ambition is only exceeded by its execution, and I thank the incredible creative team behind it, including Ashley [Lyle, co-showrunner], Bart [Nickerson, co-showrunner], Jonathan [Lisco, co-showrunner], eOne and the Showtime team, for turning this into such a success."

Yellowjackets season 2 premieres March 24 on Showtime in the US, with a UK release date TBA for Sky and NOW users.
