Outlander star Sam Heughan has a dream role he'd love to step into when he's not playing Jamie Fraser.

The Scottish actor revealed he's "desperate" to be cast in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the series adaptation of JRR Tolkien's saga. The Prime Video show debuted its first season earlier this year and is in production for a five-season commitment.

"I'm still desperate to be an elf or a dwarf," Heughan shared in an interview with Audible (via MSN).

"So, if The Rings of Power are still casting, I'm available! I've even got a ginger wig, if they're interested," he joked.

The period drama star also discussed his love of fantasy and specifically Tolkien's work, revealing a deep connection to The Lord of the Rings. His brother is named after an elf from the 1954 novel, while Heughan himself owes his name to Samwise Gamgee, Frodo Baggins' loyal companion.

"My family were big, big fans. My brother was named after an elf from Lord of the Rings," he said.

"Not only that, but I grew up on the grounds of a derelict castle. So I think that fantasy element — I imagined myself as Robert the Bruce or King Arthur," he added. "All of these things were great influences for me growing up."

Heughan even chose a Tolkien quote for the epigraph of his memoir, titled Waypoints, which was published last October.

While Heughan is trying to manifest his elf gig, he's also bagged a part in a present-day rom-com starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Celine Dion.

Titled Love Again, the romantic drama stars Chopra as Mira Ray, a grieving woman who copes with the loss of her fiancé by sending romantic texts to his old number. What Mira doesn't know is that the number has been reassigned to journalist Rob Burns (Heughan), who's fascinated by the messages and enlists the help of megastar Celine Dion to meet Mira in person.

Outlander airs on Starz in the US, and streams on Lionsgate+ in the UK.
