Two years since its launch, Disney+ (and its STAR strand of programming including an ever-expanding range of movies and TV shows including The Walking Dead, Grey's Anatomy, Scandal and Nomadland) is a firm fixture in the streaming service landscape.
This expansion (which added to a content list that already included Star Wars, Marvel, National Geographic and Pixar programming) meant a price increase for subscribers earlier this year.
Here's what you need to know about Disney+ pricing, including some differences between the UK and US markets.
Disney+ price UK
Disney+ first launched in the UK in 2020 with an original monthly subscription price of £5.99, or a yearly subscription cost of £59.99 (which worked out slightly cheaper on a per-month basis, if you were happy to pay for a full year up front).
From February 23, 2021, when it officially expanded its library with the STAR strand of programming, the cost for new subscribers rose to £7.99 per month, or £79.90 per year.
For those who took out a subscription earlier than that, or who had a yearly plan that was due to come to an end in March on the first anniversary of the Disney+ launch in the UK, Disney+ confirmed on its UK website that the price increase would come into effect after August 22 (which has now passed).
Although membership sales are infrequent (that said, Disney+ Day was a recent example) and there's no longer a free trial, there is still a way in which you can save on the Disney+ price.
If you're an O2 customer, there are a couple of different options. You can claim up to six months' worth of free Disney+ access as an Extra on your phone plan, if you're a new customer or upgrading your contract.
If you're an O2 customer *and* an existing Disney+ customer, then your subscription should automatically be paused while the promotional period is in effect. However, you've always got the option of reaching out to the customer service team if you're concerned about accidentally being billed twice.
Alternatively, if you're not ready to upgrade your O2 contract, you can add Disney+ as an Extra at the usual monthly price of £7.99. O2 will then give you back £2 in monthly credit on your phone bill (making the effective monthly cost £5.99, if you want to interpret it as such).
Disney+ price increase US
In the US, the Disney+ price rise (following the launch of STAR on the platform in February), didn't take effect until March 26. New subscribers now have to pay a monthly fee of $7.99, or a yearly cost of $79.99.
US customers can also take advantage of a bundle that provides Disney+, Hulu (which includes shows such as The Handmaid's Tale and PEN15) and ESPN+ (boasting exclusive content from live games, in-depth game recaps and analysis and historic games).
The bundle subscription is available with Hulu (ad-supported) for $13.99 per month, with Hulu (no ads) for $19.99 a month, or with Hulu + Live TV for $72.99 per month.
You're able to download each app separately, in order to access each service.
Meanwhile, Amazon is running an offer in partnership with Disney+ for customers in the US and Canada who also want to sign up to its Amazon Music Unlimited service.
New Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers can claim 6 months of free Disney+ access, and "current and former Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers" can claim 3 months of free Disney+ access.
There are, as you'd expect, some important terms and conditions – current Disney+ subscribers can't take up this offer, and the promotion subscription remains active unless you cancel your Amazon Music subscription in that period, in which case the promotion offer will lapse.
Mobile network Verizon also offers "Disney+ On Us" as part of selected plans – more information is available here.
