Cruella's first trailer sees Emma Stone transform into iconic Disney villain

It's going to be anarchy.

Cruella's first trailer has arrived to showcase Emma Stone's transformation into the iconic Disney villain Cruella de Vil.

The trailer shows Cruella's dramatic introduction to the world at a masked ball where some dalmatians growl at her (clever dogs), while also giving a hint at the anarchy she creates after her transformation.

"The thing is I was born brilliant, born bad and a little bit mad," she says in voiceover.

Set in the 1970s, the film explores the early life of the legendary Cruella de Vil as she grows up in London amongst the punk rock scene. Then known as Estella, she is clever, creative and, of course, fashionable, and is determined to make a name for herself with her designs.

The movie will follow Estella as she befriends a pair of young thieves and builds a life on the London streets with them.

But Estella's unique style soon catches the eye of fashion legend Baroness von Hellman (played by Emma Thompson), and their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and transform into Cruella.

To mark the release of the first trailer, Disney revealed the official poster for the prequel movie yesterday (February 16) which showed Stone sporting the villain's iconic black and white hairstyle.

Disney's Cruella is directed by I Tonya's Craig Gillespie, and starring alongside Stone and Thompson is Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beacham, Joel Fry, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Mark Strong.

Speaking last year, Strong teased what fans can expect from the film, explaining: "It's such a massive production. There are huge fashion and ballroom sequences in it, which are just so impressive.

"What the film does, which is brilliant, is try to throw a light on where the Cruella that we think we know has come from. It's a development story, as you see Cruella grow into the Cruella de Vil that we know and love to hate."

Cruella is due for release on May 28, 2021.
