The Sex Lives of College Girls season one spoilers follow.

The Sex Lives of College Girls star Reneé Rapp has discussed how the show helped her to explore her own bisexuality, and explain it to family and friends.

The actress' character Leighton came out at the end of season one, which Reneé believes helped her find parallels in her own sexuality and make peace with it.

"I was very afraid of how it would be perceived," she said in an interview with the BBC. "But it's my most proud acting to date, because I don't think I was acting."

Speaking about how her loved ones' perceptions have changed since exploring her bisexuality through the show, Reneé added: "I have some family members who are all of a sudden super-allied, that weren't when I was a kid. Like, it's more palatable to accept me being gay now that I'm on a TV show, because its so glamorous and romanticised.

"Is that messed up? Yeah. Will I accept it? Yeah."

Despite receiving praise for the role, Reneé revealed that she sees herself more as a singer than actress, especially as she has a burgeoning musical career, with her debut EP being released in November last year.

"From the second I had a thought, I have pursued music," she said. "There's videos of me before I could talk, sitting on a coffee table in my parents' house, making up songs and playing a harmonica. It was always this."
