Neil Patrick Harris' Netflix show Uncoupled gets cancelled after just one series

It's the latest in a long line of cancellations from the streaming service.

Uncoupled, the rom-com series starring Neil Patrick Harris, has been cancelled by Netflix after just one season.

The series, which was created by Jeffrey Richman and Darren Star (Sex and the City, Emily in Paris), saw Harris play a New York real estate agent who navigates the dating scene after his partner of 17 years walks out of their relationship.

The only season, which consisted of eight episodes, also starred Tuc Watkins, Tisha Campbell and Marcia Gay Harden, with the series receiving generally positive reviews throughout its run.

The decision is likely down to its mediocre commercial performance, with the series only entering Netflix’s Top 10 in the week of its release, which was in July 2022.

Star had previously teased plot developments for the now cancelled show, with the second season set to answer the mystery of Kai’s (Jasai Chase Owens) birth father: “We have strong ideas about that storyline. We almost gave it away in season one, then decided not to. It'll be very surprising,” said Star in August.

The writer-director more recently revealed he wanted Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall to appear on Emily in Paris, with her absence from sequel show And Just Like That… keeping her schedule free: “I would love to work with Kim,” he said. “It's just about finding a role that's worthy of Kim. If it works out for this, it'll be fun. So let's see what happens.”
