Pose actress Michaela Jaé Rodriguez has signed up for the upcoming movie Wildfire.
Written by Chaya Doswell, this tale follows seven-year-old mute Lu who accidentally starts a wildfire.
A runaway from an abusive household, she sneakily tricks trans woman Merribelle (played by Rodriguez) into kidnapping her. That sets in motion an unexpected, heartwarming bond with dire consequences.
Deadline broke the casting news, reporting that the production is now seeking a director.

"I'm so excited to be working with Michaela on this amazing project. Michaela is one of the superstars of now and the future. She's immensely talented," producer Randy Jackson (yep, the former American Idol judge!) told the publication in a brief statement.
Renowned for her Golden Globe-winning turn as Blanca Evangelista in FX's ballroom drama Pose, Rodriguez also has Transformers: Rise of the Beasts on the horizon, plus a second season of Apple TV+ comedy Loot in which she plays Sofia Salinas opposite Maya Rudolph's Molly Novak.

It was this time last year that she celebrated her history-making Globes triumph, becoming the first transgender person to be recognised by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
