Former Emmerdale star Alexander Lincoln has opened up about his sexuality in an Instagram comment to fans.
The actor famously played the role of Jamie Tate between 2019 and 2021 on the ITV soap, and has since gone on to star in the likes of Everything I Know About Love and In From the Side.
Taking to Instagram to speak about being longlisted at the BIFA Awards for his performance in the latter LGBTQ+ drama, Alexander said he was "infinitely proud of this film and what it continues to do and how it continues to resonate with audiences".

One fan asked in the comments: "I loved the movie and its actors are still very handsome but I still think that the actors are posing as gay but they are not. Is it my doubt?"
The actor then replied: "Thanks so much – really appreciate it!!!! And no, I'm not straight".
Another fan shared their appreciation for him being open about his sexuality, writing: "I know this may sound dumb, but thank you for saying this.
"I'd already read elsewhere that you'd already said it and it wasn't exactly a secret or anything, but seeing you say it here on Instagram means a lot more than you know".

Alexander responded to them with another comment, writing: "Really appreciate you saying that. Thank you."
In From the Side follows an affair between two men who play for the same rugby club, as they gradually develop feelings for one another.
Speaking last year about the movie, Alexander said: "It's about raw lust, throwing caution to the wind, not really thinking about other people's feelings and having it all blow up in your face.
"I think everyone can relate to that, whether you've had an affair or not."
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
