Young Royals future is confirmed by Netflix

Rejoice!

It's official! Netflix has confirmed Young Royals will be back for a third and final season.

The bittersweet news was announced by Netflix Nordic on Twitter today (December 14) with a Young Royal-ised rendition of 'Twelve Days Of Christmas', sung by none other than the Hillerska choir.

The show's head writer and co-creator Lisa Ambjörn also confirmed the news in a statement, saying (via Gay Times): "I’ve always imagined Young Royals being told in three parts, and because of the fans' dedication to our story, we get to tell the last one."

It's a heartbreaking thing when Netflix decides to cancel your favourite show (Warrior Nun fans, we grieve with you!), so at least Young Royal-ists can be rest assured that they'll definitely get to see how Wilhelm and Simon's story ends.

We would expect, of course, Edvin Ryding and Omar Rudberg to reprise their roles as Prince Wilhelm and Simon in season 3, as well as Frida Argento as Sara, Malte Gårdinger as August and Nikita Uggla as Felice.

When Digital Spy previously sat down with Rudberg, we asked what he hopes to see in a third season. He told us: "One thing that I really just want to see is Simon and Wilhelm – will they be happy? So we can get a taste of the love. The 100% love – the unconditional love – and being together. That's something that I want to see."

"It can't be like that all the time," he admitted. "It has to be interesting. It has to wake the feelings. But that's something that I'm looking forward to, to see them like a 'we against the world' kind of thing. That would be so beautiful to see."

Young Royals seasons 1 and 2 are now available to watch on Netflix.
