AMC's Interview with the Vampire shouldn't work. Anne Rice's books are so beloved, and that corny '90s flick is pretty popular too, so any kind of reimagining feels like a gamble. But here we are with one of the best shows of the year, one that captures the essence of Rice's writing like no other adaptation.
Yet it doesn't slavishly follow the source material either. What makes Interview with the Vampire work so well is its willingness to infuse the text with more modern sensibilities, unafraid to tackle challenging themes around race, queerness, and male toxicity.
In short, we're obsessed, and so is AMC from the look of it as the network commissioned a second season before the first one even started to air.
AMC's original programming chief Dan McDermott shared the following statement alongside this announcement:
"The scope and breadth of this show, and what (showbosses Mark Johnson and Rolin Jones) have delivered, is just stupendous. They have rendered the rich and vibrant world of Anne Rice’s Interview in a wonderful way, and we’re incredibly proud."

Interview with the Vampire season 2 potential release date: When will it air?
AMC is the kind of network that usually sticks to an annual release pattern, which means that a new season of Interview with the Vampire could be with us as soon as October 2023.
The show's typical season length is a bit shorter than your average network show, so it should be quicker to make, plus nothing screams Halloween like sexy, queer vampires. That early renewal could work in the show's favour too.
Interview with the Vampire season 2 cast: Who's in it?
There are only three characters who we know for certain survive to the present day, but we won't name them here just yet in case they're spoilers. However, even those who don't make it to now will show up in earlier flashback sections, so with that in mind, expect to see the following cast members return for season two:

• Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt
• Eric Bogosian as Daniel Molloy
• Bailey Bass as Claudia
• Assad Zaman as Rashid/Armand
Yes, we will certainly be seeing Sam Reid again, despite what happened to Lestat in the season one finale. And even if he's not around so much in the show's two main timelines, it's entirely possible that season two might fold in a third era by incorporating some of Lestat's backstory from The Vampire Lestat, the second book in Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles.
Plus, a bunch of new characters will also be joining this motley crew in season two as the location moves from New Orleans to various (sexy) cities in Europe.
Interview with the Vampire season 2 plot: What will happen next?
When the renewal was announced, Interview with the Vampire showrunner Rolin Jones shared the following:
"Bulgaria. Romania. Paris. (Ah Paris!) San Francisco. New Orleans. Dubai. The writing staff of Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire is honored, humbled, and hungry to add more stamps to our vamps’ passport books. All praises be to our fearless network, we shall endeavor not to screw it up."
Notice a few locations we haven't visited yet in the first season? That's because the initial run didn't even cover everything that happened in Anne Rice's first book. That means season two will be taking Louis, Claudia, and yes, even Lestat, off to Bulgaria, Romania and Paris.
To say much more here would spoil what comes next, plus the show might choose to deviate more from the source material in future anyway.
However, anyone worried about Lestat's future on the show shouldn't be too concerned.
Speaking about season two, Sam Reid told Collider: "Lestat goes to the naughty corner. I don’t know if that’s better for him, but he probably deserves it. It’s a hard lesson to learn when your husband kills you because you’ve been that terrible. That’s a pretty hectic lesson. But there is more pain to come."
And beyond Interview with the Vampire, AMC is also working on a ton of other Anne Rice adaptations including Lives of the Mayfair Witches, which will star The White Lotus' Alexandra Daddario.
18 titles were purchased in total, including three crossover novels, so it's entirely possible that future seasons of Interview with the Vampire will also include other iconic characters from the rest of Anne's bibliography too.
Interview with the Vampire season 2 trailer: When can I watch it?
Until new footage arrives late in 2023, we recommend reading all the books and rewatching the 90s film too. We know, waiting sucks, but Brad Pitt looks great in it, and Kirsten Dunst is truly iconic as a young Claudia.
Interview with the Vampire airs on AMC and AMC+ in the US. A UK broadcaster and release date has not been announced yet.
