It's always good to have a back up plan, after all.

Director David F Sandberg has revealed the other ways the Shazam! movie could have started and ended.

Instead of the car crash scene at the beginning, Thad could have taken an elevator to the Rock of Eternity. But this is the start of a superhero movie – it needs a bit more punch than just a ride in a lift.

"In the original opening, an elevator takes Thad to the Rock of Eternity. We did the car crash instead to have a more dramatic opening to the film. Thad also sees a hologram with some Sin backstory, similar to Billy," Sandberg tweeted.

And when it came to potential other ideas for the movie's ending, there was a definite back-up plan in case the Superman cameo didn't pan out.

"The alternate ending was a backup we shot in case the cameo at the end didn't work. The alternate had all the kids transform and fly off to stop a hostage situation."

Sandberg also reasoned that it's important to talk about the alternate openings and endings for movies, so that "aspiring filmmakers can see that it takes a loooot of work to get a film in shape."

Of course, the Superman cameo was originally intended to include Henry Cavill, but producer Peter Safran told ComicBook.com that the moment between Freddy and the superheroes "turned out to be better" without the big-name cameo stealing the spotlight.

Much like the reason for that dodgy moustache, Henry's schedule "didn't allow him" to film the cameo, according to Shazam!'s producer Peter Safran.

Following the movie's success, Warner Bros and DC are already planning a sequel (and if you've seen the film, you'll know they've been setting one up).

Shazam! is in US and UK cinemas now.
