Jesse Eisenberg has "no idea" whether he will reprise his role as Lex Luthor.

The actor appeared at SXSW this weekend where he was asked whether he would play the DC villain in future Superman films.

In response, Eisenberg revealed he didn't know of plans for his character to appear on screen again. However, he did reveal he would "love to do it again".

So, at least there is hope.

"I mean, I have no idea is the truth," he said (via Variety)."I love playing the character.

"Probably in terms of movie acting, it's the most enjoyable character I've had the opportunity to play. So I would love to do it again. But I don't know what their slate is. If you have any pull, please use it."

Luthor made a brief appearance in the post credits scenes of last year's Justice League, where he launched the Injustice League alongside other DC villain Deathstroke.

Eisenberg also confirmed at the festival that the scene was his only planned role in the film, despite rumours a bigger role for his character was cut during production.

With a ton of films on the DCEU release calendar, fans will most likely expect Luthor to appear in the unofficial Man of Steel sequel.

The anticipated film will star Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, but the release date and further cast information is to be confirmed – although it is rumoured Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn is in talks to helm the project.

Fingers crosssed.
