New Flintstones comic gives Fred and Wilma a gritty, Nolan-esque reboot

The modern stone age family enter 21st century.

The Flintstones have been given a darker makeover in a new comic book series.

DC Comic has released #Flintstones 1, exchanging the fun '60s tone of Fred, Wilma and co for a gritty, almost Christopher Nolan-esque feel.

"The modern stone age family" has always been the tagline of The Flintstones, and it seems the new series sticks to that, updating and satirising modern life now.

For example, they have wireless shell phones, and vaping hipsters have a role too as Wilma showcases art in a gallery show.

However, the comic also explores harder themes such as PTSD and the trials of a post-industrial world.

The comic is part of a new series launched by DC, including Scooby Apocalypse, which sees Scooby Doo and the gang revamped as hipsters.
