Marvel teases Spider-Man's Uncle Ben's resurrection and everything is awful

The week in comics – Rogue One prequels and Gwenom.

Here's your weekly roundup of comics news, from even more Civil War II comics to Batman's new look:

WTF? Is Uncle Ben really coming back to life?

Marvel Comics

Marvel releases a teaser for its Spider-Man 'Dead No More' story and we're starting to get that sinking feeling.

There used to be a saying that 'anyone in comics could come back to life except Bucky and Uncle Ben'. Then Bucky came back to life.

And this new teaser features Ben Parker alongside other dead Spider-Man characters including Captain George Stacy and Jean DeWolff. Join us in praying that it isn't what it looks like.

The Civil War II tie-ins keep coming

Marvel Comics

The first few pebbles of Civil War II tie-ins have become the avalanche we always expected, with more titles announced at Chicago's C2E2 convention.

Writer Dan Abnett and artist Emilio Laiso are working on a Hercules-led team-up in Civil War II: Gods of War, with a host of creators chipping in on the Civil War II: Choosing Sides six-issue anthology miniseries about all the characters who didn't make the solo or team series cut.

Deadpool, Totally Awesome Hulk, Uncanny Inhumans, Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel, Captain America: Sam Wilson, Ultimates, New Avengers, Nova, All-New Wolverine and Invincible Iron Man will all see their ongoing series tying into the event, with the latest solicitations revealing that Tony Stark will be declaring war on the Inhumans.

Rumours that this will be over their attempt to replace the X-Men in the Marvel Universe remain entirely unproven.

Batman gets a new costume

DC Comics

Giving the Dark Knight a new costume is a time-honoured tradition by now, and with Batman #50 he'll be replacing the robot bunny ears for a more traditional look with extra yellow.

Creative team Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo will be wrapping up their acclaimed run, which rose from the controversial ashes of 2011's New 52 relaunch.

Prep yourself for more Star Wars with the Rogue One prequel comic

Lucasfilm

Marvel's Star Wars comics have become their most successful publications, and it's sure to get a bit of buzz by teasing us with its next project – a Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel series.

It was announced at C2E2, and we're still waiting for details. It was billed as a three-issue miniseries and a one-shot coming out in October, ahead of Rogue One's December release.

Marvel cancels two more series

Marvel Comics

Black Knight was the first of the All-New All-Different Marvel titles to fold.

Now this week's issues of both Angela: Queen of Hel and Howling Commandos of SHIELD have confirmed what we already suspected – that they have both been cancelled.

The new Howling Commandos #6 will be the final issue, while Angela fans have a brief reprieve before the title shuts up in April with issue #7.

Spider-Gwen artist makes his final bow with Gwenom

Marvel Comics

Artist Robbi Rodriguez has announced that he won't only be leaving Spider-Gwen but the comics industry altogether.

He told Newsarama that his final story will be the Gwen Stacy-meets-Venom story Gwenom. No word about whether Rodriguez is retiring from punning too.
