Brussels terror attacks: People around the world show their solidarity by sharing powerful Tintin cartoons

Social media users have been sharing emotive images of Tintin, to show their solidarity with the victims of the Brussels terrorist attacks.

Following the tragic events in the Belgian capital this morning (March 22), the country's popular comic book character has been drawn in various cartoons alongside Captain Haddock and his dog Snowy.

French newspaper Le Monde also paid a moving tribute to Brussels today, with a cartoon of a crying Tricolore French flag embracing a crying Belgian flag.

Facebook activated its Safety Check feature following explosions at Zaventem airport and Maelbeek metro station. 30 people are believed to have died, with over 100 injured.

Belgian authorities have launched a major counter-terrorism operation and the country is on its highest state of alert.
