The Owl House spoilers follow.
The Owl House – a Disney animated series which has received tons of praise for its positive LGBTQ+ representation – is back for season three, but this new chapter will unfortunately be the last we'll see Luz, King and Eda because the show is officially ending.
Created by Dana Terrace, the series follows a human girl who accidentally stumbles upon a portal to the Demon Realm on her way to summer camp. Here, she befriends a rebellious witch and her demon housemate, who help her pursue her dreams of becoming a witch.
Unfortunately, The Owl House's second season hadn't even finished airing before it was announced that season three would wrap up the show across three 44-minute specials as opposed to its usual 20 episodes.
Following its cancellation in October 2021, Terrace took to Reddit for an Ask Me Anything and claimed the show wasn't axed because of low viewership or issues related to the pandemic, but rather because some Disney executives didn't think it fit the company's brand.
"There are a few business people who oversee what fits into the Disney brand and one day one of those guys decided TOH didn't fit that 'brand'," she wrote. "The story is serialised (BARELY compared to any average anime lmao), our audience skews older, and that just didn't fit this one guy's tastes.
"That's it! Ain't that wild? Really grinds my guts, boils my brain, kicks my shins, all the things. It sucks but it is what it is."
As sad as it may be, we still have some epic episodes of The Owl House on the way. So what can we expect from them and when can we expect them?
Here's everything you need to know.
The Owl House season 3 release date: When will it air?
The first special from The Owl House season three was released on Disney Channel on October 15. If you missed it, it's now available to watch on Disney+.
Episode two, which is titled 'For the Future', will arrive on Disney Channel on January 21. Episode one landed on Disney+ two months after its Disney Channel release, so we'd expect episode two to follow suit and arrive on the platform in March.
The third and final episode is yet to get a release date. But given the three-month wait between episodes one and two, it's likely to air on Disney Channel in April and arrive on Disney+ in June.
