Fans of Pixar's Inside Out will be disgusted to know that one of its original stars won't be returning for the sequel.

Mindy Kaling, who voiced Disgust in the 2015 animated film, recently told The Wrap that she isn't returning for the follow-up film.

"I had a great time working on Inside Out and am sure Inside Out 2 will be great. But I'm not working on it," Kaling revealed.

The Wrap claims there's a small possibility Kaling could end up being part of Inside Out 2, as things reportedly aren't yet set in stone. However, this seems unlikely given Kaling's statement.

In September 2022, Pixar confirmed the hit movie would be getting the sequel treatment. During Disney's panel at the D23 expo that month, Amy Poehler, the voice behind Joy, made the announcement.

Poehler said Inside Out 2, due for release in 2024, will take place when the original film's protagonist Riley (voiced by Kaitlyn Dias) is a teenager.

Teasing fans with the promise of some new characters, Poehler said at the time: "I guess I won't tell them about the new emotions that show up. Inside Out 2 comes out summer of 2024."

Inside Out tells the story of a young girl named Riley, who moves to San Francisco with her family, and focuses on the different emotions inside her head.

Starring alongside Poehler and Kaling in the original are Lewis Black as Anger, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Bill Hader as Fear. Thus far, only Poehler is confirmed for the sequel.

Onward's Kelsey Mann will direct Inside Out 2, taking over from original director Pete Docter. Meg LeFauve will return for writing duties.

Inside Out 2 will be released in cinemas in summer 2024.
