Game of Thrones costumes, gifts and more
Your House of the Dragon cosplay starts here!
House of the Dragon stormed through Westeros bringing fans of the franchise betrayal, sex – and, of course, plenty of dragons. The long awaited Game of Thrones spin-off is a hit with viewers, dispelling fears that it would follow the footsteps of its predecessor's divisive ending.
The latest instalment from the GoT universe promised to be "dark, powerful [and] visceral", according to its author George R R Martin – and boy, did showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik deliver.
If you thought episode one was dicey with Queen Aemma's brutal breech birth being intercut with the bloody tournament, then just wait until you reach the finale. Not only does House of the Dragon increase the intensity episode by episode, it lands its finish with a punch to the gut that will steer the course of what's to come.
Speaking of the tension about to unfold in season two, Baela Targaryen actress Bethany Antonia told Digital Spy in an exclusive interview: "We're going to war, aren't we? [Rhaenyra] tried her damned best. You know what I mean? She tried so hard. I am so excited for what's to come. We are going to war and that's it."
When asked how the events will play out, Antonia said: "No idea. We've obviously got the book, so we all kind of know where things end up. But the brilliant thing about the show is that all of the characters – the children of the dance have all been aged up in a way. So we are way more involved earlier on."
If House of the Dragon season one is anything to go by, then even more blood and tears are on the horizon. But, to be fair, the franchise has never shied away from gory heartache (lest we be reminded of the Red Wedding).
All this talk of emotional television trauma has us reminiscing on the days when winter was coming and Jon Snow knew nothing. Some say there is no going back – but that simply isn't true.
