The Witcher: Blood Origin spoilers follow.

The Witcherverse is growing exponentially, and we're not just talking about the release of new prequels like Nightmare of the Wolf and now Blood Origin.

Anyone who's watched all the way through Blood Origin's four episodes will know that the franchise has begun to bend the rules of space and time in ways that open The Witcher up to whole new realms. Literally.

So even though Netflix has claimed that Blood Origin is just a limited, one-off series, we're not convinced. Whether these characters will return in a second season or just appear sporadically in other Witcher stories remains to be seen, but don't be surprised if that ending signifies something greater for the world of Blood Origin moving forward.

With that in mind, grab a sword and a few coins to toss as we break down everything you need to know about The Witcher: Blood Origin season two.

The Witcher: Blood Origin season 2 potential release date — When will The Witcher: Blood Origin season 2 air?

Netflix shows usually return around 12-18 months after the first season has dropped in full, but Blood Origin hasn't been renewed just yet, and its status as a limited series does complicate things further.

Bringing back a "one-off' show like this isn't unheard of, especially these days, although it means we could be waiting longer than just one year for Blood Origin to return.

If Netflix does give the go-ahead, we might have to wait until 2024 at the very earliest to see more of these prequel characters back in action.

Whether they return in season two or another Witcher show entirely, the following cast members could all be back soon in some capacity:

• Sophia Brown as Éile
• Michelle Yeoh as Scian
• Nathaniel Curtis as Brían
• Jacob Collins-Levy as Eredin
• Lizzie Annis as Zacaré
• Huw Novelli as Callan "Brother Death"
• Francesca Mills as Meldof

Others like Mirren Mack (Merwyn), Laurence O'Fuarain (Fjall), and Dylan Moran (Uthrok One-Nut) are less likely to return given how the first season played out, but in a world of magic, anything is possible. Especially where flashbacks are concerned.

Mack has already expressed a keenness to jump back into things. When speaking of a possible return to the franchise for Merwyn, Mack told Digital Spy: "I can only hope. I would love to come back to be part of this universe again.

"I had so much fun playing Merwyn. I think she's deeply complicated and complex… I could only dream to come back somehow."

She's not the only one keen to return in some possible way. During the same exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Annis was enthusiastic about a possible return, stating: "Absolutely and always, would be my answer to that [returning].

"It was the most special experience. It would be a total privilege. I suppose we'll see where it takes us. We'll see what emerges – fingers crossed."

And then there's Minnie Driver's mysterious franchise-spanning character, Seanchai, who will definitely return and play an even bigger role moving forward.

The Witcher: Blood Origin is supposed to be a limited series, but if it does return, we expect new episodes would likely focus on Éile and her baby, whose arrival helps kickstart the Witcher bloodline.

The end of season one also hinted that this isn't the last we've seen of Eredin, who will definitely show up again alongside other characters such as Seanchai and even Avallac'h, who connects this show to Ciri via time-spanning magic.

And even dead characters could haunt the series still in a potential second season as well.

During an exclusive chat with Mirren Mack, the Sex Education star revealed that she'd love to return for another season, despite what happened to Merwyn at the end of season one.

"I can only hope. I have no idea. I think I couldn't possibly say," she said. "But I would love to come back to be part of this universe again. And, also, I had so much fun playing Merwyn.

"I think she's deeply complicated and complex, and there's a lot of things that we have similar, and a lot of things we have that are very different. Those were great challenges. I could only dream to sort of come back somehow."
