Teen Wolf: The Movie star Holland Roden has a fresh heartbreak for Lydia in the upcoming film.

The film, which serves as a continuation of the MTV series, sees a “terrifying evil” emerge in Beacon Hills, with most of the original cast returning to quell the danger.

Roden, who played banshee Lydia throughout the show’s run, spoke exclusively with Digital Spy alongside co-star Shelley Hennig, with the former hinting that her character might have more reasons to scream and wail.

“Oh, you know, there’s lots to wail about in the movie,” she said. “I obviously can’t give too much away, but there’s definitely a fresh scream coming out of Lydia, 15 years after the show ends, at the ripe, old age of 35 in this movie. But what about? We will have to wait and see.”

Referencing Lydia’s progression throughout the show, which saw her status as the most popular student evolve, Roden said that the character forged her inner steel from multiple sources, saying: “I think she got her strength from just the support that she gained throughout the season.

“She started out as essentially the ‘popular girl’, but she was quite the loner, intrinsically,” she continued. “And being able to trust more of those around her, and for them to become her true friends. So I think that’s where she gets her strength from.”

Hennig, who plays Malia Tate, also discussed the growth of her character, with the werecoyote gradually adapting to human life as the series wore on: “Well, she’s had a late start, being absent for [her] very formative years,” she said. From 8 to 16, [she was] a coyote, so she has a lot to catch up on.

“We do find her in a lot more of a vulnerable space when the movie starts,” she said. “[It] was really fun to play. I played her less on top of things, and a little more squirmy. That’s what I picked up on in the script, because I wanted to see her growth. I wanted to see what was slightly different about her, but not lose all the things we love about Malia.”

Teen Wolf: The Movie is released on Paramount+ in the US on January 26 and in the UK on January 27
