First trailer for Sex Education star's new Christmas movie

In which a festive surprise doesn't quite turn out as planned...

An upcoming holiday romcom starring Sex Education's Asa Butterfield has just released its first trailer.

From director Jim O'Hanlon, Your Christmas or Mine? sees Butterfield as James, starring opposite Cora Kirk as Hayley.

A young couple very much in love, the two protagonists get ready to spend Christmas with their respective families. Moments after saying goodbye at a train station in London, they both make a split-second decisions to swap trains and surprise each other.

Each unaware they're now travelling in different directions, Hayley is on route to a small village in the Gloucester countryside where Christmas does not exist.

Meanwhile, James heads north to a small semi-detached house in Macclesfield, welcomed by Hayley's big, chaotic family who celebrate Christmas in style.

As the country is blanketed in the biggest snowfall on record, the two lovers are trapped with each other's families at one of the most stressful times of the year.

It wouldn't be a holiday flick if we didn't know they'll probably find a way back to each other in time, somehow. But that's the wholesome appeal of Christmas movies, right?

Emily in Paris' Lucien Laviscount, The Crown's Alex Jennings and Killing Eve's Harriet Walter also star, along with Daniel Mays (Fisherman's Friends), David Bradley (the Harry Potter series), Angela Griffin (White Lines), Natalie Gumede (Titans) and Ram John Holder (Desmond's).

Butterfield is set to reprise the role of Otis Milburn in the fourth season of Netflix's Sex Education. Speaking earlier the year, the actor said he is "not in a hurry" to leave the series, while remaining aware that that a coming-of-age story can't outstay its welcome.

"You can't just keep coming of age because then where's the ending? Where's the resolution?" he said. "So 'I don't know' is my answer. We'll have to wait and see."

Your Christmas or Mine? premieres on Prime Video on December 2.
