Brookside cast reunite 19 years after the soap ended

Getting the gang back together.

Several former cast members from the iconic soap Brookside have had a mini reunion, nearly 20 years since the show ended.

Mark Moraghan, who played Greg Shadwick, tweeted some images of himself alongside some other former Brookside cast members. Captioning the photo: "On set with old chums," he was sat inside a pub alongside Ricky Tomlinson and Louis Emerick.

Moraghan was, however, quick to rule out a Brookside reboot. After a follower quizzed if the soap was making a comeback, he replied "Noooo," alongside a crying laughing emoji.

The actor remained tight lipped about the details of their meeting, confirming to a curious fan only that they were together to create a film.

Another tweet from Moraghan would suggest the group were there filming Our Kid, an upcoming film which is set to feature all three of the actors.

Moraghan played Greg Shadwick on the show between 1998 and 1999, Emerick played Mick Johnson for 12 years until 2001 and Tomlinson was Bobby Grant between 1982 and 1988.

During its 2 decade stint on our televisions, Brookside launched the careers of several actors, including Anna Friel, Jennifer Ellison, Ray Quinn and Dean Sullivan.

While it's unlikely the soap will ever make a return to our screens, fans are still able to watch some of the classic episodes.

Last year, streaming giant BritBox brought back Brookside alongside several episodes of Crossroads and Take The High Road. The soap's availability on BritBox follows on from the release of the show's 30th anniversary DVD Brookside: Most Memorable Moments (30th Anniversary Edition) in 2012.

The show's recent availability came after a campaign from super fan Lee Brady who launched a petition to get more of the show's episodes uploaded to streaming services. "There’s a huge nostalgia around it and there’s not much on YouTube, but Brookside was always ahead of its time," he told the Metro.
