Bridgerton and Sex Education stars have future of new show revealed beyond season 1

Comedy-horror Wreck has been renewed for a second series.

Bridgerton’s James Phoon and Sex Education’s Thaddea Graham will be appearing in further series of Wreck, with the BBC renewing the show for further episodes.

The first series of the comedy-horror, which airs on BBC Three, consisted of six episodes, with the broadcaster ordering a second series following its conclusion last week (October 24).

The show takes place on a cruise ship, with the opening episodes following Jamie (Oscar Kennedy) as he investigates the disappearance of his sister.

The synopsis for the second series, which will begin filming in Northern Ireland in 2023, reads: “After the dramatic events on The Sacramentum cruise liner, the Valorum corporation are out for blood - hunting down the gang who overthrew the ship.

“Jamie and Vivian have so far failed to expose the corporation’s killer secret but our duo are determined to rally former shipmates and survive long enough to expose the next big thing in twisted entertainment. Things aren’t always safer on dry land…”

Creator Ryan J Brown, who also wrote an episode on Netflix series The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself, celebrated the announcement, saying: “I’m really thrilled to be serving up another slice of Wreck.

“We’ll be back, bigger and bloodier in 2023. To have BBC Three's confidence in us reaffirmed is the best feeling. I’ve always had big plans for where our story could go and to fully realise that is an honour.”

Graham, who plays Vivian Lim on the show, has appeared in Doctor Who and The Letter for the King, with the actress recently joining the fourth season of Sex Education.

Phoon, who has a recurring role as Hamish on Wreck, will appear in the third season of Bridgerton, with the actor praising both shows for their inclusivity and representation.

Bridgerton is totally changing the game, along with shows like Wreck that are just giving room to allow people to see themselves within stories,” he told Digital Spy in an exclusive chat.

“I never, until Bridgerton, would have visualised myself in this sort of period-drama setting. It wasn't a thing. I just didn't consider it. So I think it's really cool to have these shows.”

Wreck series 1 is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Bridgerton seasons 1-2 are streaming now on Netflix. Season 3 is in production.
