Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega reveals why it was hard to ‘warm up’ around Christina Ricci on set

"It’s weird when I’ve grown up my entire life viewing her as Wednesday."

Netflix's Wednesday spoilers follow.

Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega has explained why it was hard to "warm up" around Christina Ricci on set.

The Scream star takes on the iconic Addams Family role as Wednesday for a spinoff series which will actually feature predecessor Christina Ricci in a brand new part.

Speaking to Digital Spy ahead of the series launching today (November 23), Ortega admitted to being "intimidated" when Ricci first showed up to film her scenes.

"[Our Wednesdays] are very different. Which is interesting. Because I feel like a lot of the humour and a lot of the line are similar," she said. "We pull inspiration from the ‘90s films. But she’s a really wonderful, gifted actress. And obviously it’s weird when I’ve grown up my entire life viewing her as Wednesday. So it’s a bit disorienting. I think it took me a couple of days to kind of loosen up and warm up around her.

"But they’re very different people. I hope that there’s not too much comparison going on, because it’s not necessary. I think that the show is a fun 'get lost in [it]' show. And it’s a completely different world. There’s superheroes, and now she’s an investigator and she’s older. They’re two completely different people."

The Addams Family spinoff also features Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán as Wednesday's parents, Morticia and Gomez Addams, as well as SNL's Fred Armisen playing Uncle Fester.

The show reunites Ricci with producer Tim Burton, who she'd previously worked with on the 1999 horror movie Sleepy Hollow. Wednesday also features Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie, The Big Bang Theory's Riki Lindhome and CSI: Vegas's Jamie McShane.

Wednesday is now streaming on Netflix worldwide.
