And Just Like That... season 2 to bring back iconic Sex and the City character

Aidan's coming back!

Rejoice, Sex and the City fans, because the second season of And Just Like That… is bringing back an iconic character from the original show.

John Corbett, who played the role of the likeable furniture maker Aidan Shaw in the original series, is set to reprise his role for the reboot's second season (via Deadline).

He is supposedly returning for a recurring role and will have a multi-episode arc on the show.

Corbett's character is one of the two beloved characters who have been notably absent from the reboot, the first one being Kim Cattrall's Samantha. Corbett had previously claimed he was a part of the show, only for it to be revealed in the end that he was joking.

Earlier this year, And Just Like That writer Julie Rottenberg explained why Aidan Shaw wasn't in the first season.

"That was one of these stories that came out, and HBO never confirmed it," she clarified. "I think their policy was they couldn't keep confirming or denying every random theory that was thrown out. But no, that was never in the plan.

"We love John, and we love Aidan. It just wasn't in the script," Rottenberg added.

The show was renewed for a second season earlier this year, with Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays Carrie Bradshaw, thanking the fans for their love and support.

Taking to Instagram, she posted a photo of the cast, writing: "Season 2. Thank you to our audience. Plain and simple. You are our heartbeat. We love you so."

As for why Samantha has been MIA from the show, creator Michael Patrick King said in And Just Like That… The Documentary that friends sometimes simply grow apart.

"I realised, 'Oh, we can have them mirror a split that people already know but make it really Carrie and Samantha and heartfelt the way you lose friends'," he said.

And Just Like That, the sequel to Sex and the City, airs on HBO Max in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
